C.E. Jarrell Contracting

C.E. Jarrell Contracting is a design/build firm based in St. Louis, Missouri. Founded by Charles E. Jarrell in 1954, this third-generation family company of approximately 350 employees serves clients from coast to coast.

C.E. Jarrell uses Maxwell Systems™ Estimation™ Logistics Mechanical & Plumbing and Maxwell Systems Estimation Logistics Electrical software for its estimating. The company was first introduced to our products when it bought a plumbing company that was already using Maxwell Systems software.

Increased Profitability and Productivity

Jeff Patterson, C.E. Jarrell’s chief estimator, had used another estimating solution prior to using Maxwell Systems software. He says the benefits of Maxwell Systems’ estimating software to his company have been considerable.

“Fifteen years ago we were doing $10 to $15 million dollars of business per year,” says Jeff. “Last year we did $75 to $80 million, and we’re on track to do about the same amount this year.”

In addition to increasing profitability, Maxwell Systems software has significantly increased C.E. Jarrell’s productivity.

“With Maxwell Systems’ software, what used to require three or four estimators now requires only one,” Jeff explains. “Obviously, that reduces our payroll costs as well.”

Essential Features

According to Jeff, the most beneficial feature of our estimating software is that it gives the estimator the ability to modify design specifications to assemblies. “With Maxwell Systems you can change design specs during takeoff and see the cost difference immediately,” he says. “It’s wonderful.”

In addition, Jeff finds the database invaluable.

“Pricing is really easy to update with the database. I can open a job from a year ago, and if the price of a particular building material has gone up 30% it’s very easy to update the job with that new information.”

Jeff’s experience with Maxwell Systems’ estimating solution has been a positive one, and he recommends it to others.

“It’s a wonderful tool that gives you a lot of features,” he says. “I’d have no problem telling anybody about it.”
