GC Software Wouldn't Do
Vice President Shawn Godwin began an extensive search and consulted with Palmetto Paving’s CPA and bonding agent, who made suggestions, checked references and helped them with evaluations. They saw demonstrations of popular construction systems, but most of them were designed for general construction. As a paving and grading contractor with a lot of equipment to track and two asphalt plants, they needed a system that was geared for heavy construction. 17-year-old Palmetto Paving was also challenged with managing the accounting of multiple companies — a paving and grading company, a curb and gutter company, a sealing company, and two asphalt plants. Their accounting staff entered transactions for all five companies, a process that was complicated and inefficient. They needed a streamlined approach to handling transactions between the companies.
Challenges
Multiple companies, multiple locations, and significant growth couldn’t be handled by Palmetto Paving’s accounting system. The company needed a comprehensive solution to synchronize their complex operations.
Solution
Palmetto Paving chose Maxwell Systems Management Suite to track job costs, materials, and equipment for its heavy construction operations.
Results
Palmetto Paving now manages growth and multiple divisions with Management Suite, an integrated construction software solution. Management Suite provides Palmetto Paving with full control over job costs and flexibility for continued growth.
“Maxwell Systems’ ability to tie our asphalt plant tickets to our job cost system has increased our accountability and our efficiency.”
Shawn Godwin, Vice President
Maxwell Systems Had the Solution
After careful evaluation, Godwin chose Maxwell Systems Management Suite, a software solution tailored exclusively for the construction industry. A popular choice for heavy contractors, Management Suite integrates accounting with features that allow Palmetto Paving to track and allocate the cost of equipment to the right job and directly import material tickets from their asphalt plants miles away.
Management Suite was installed on June 3, 2004, and Palmetto was up and running on their new system only 32 days later. Maxwell Systems was able to convert Palmetto Paving’s existing data and train their staff using a managed implementation approach so that they could be using their software as quickly as possible. Now, with their implementation behind them and their accounting system humming, Palmetto Paving has its eye on automating other processes: They’re considering field time collection technology and other construction solutions from their new business partner, Maxwell Systems
